진달래&박우혁은 사회현상과 문화적 태도를 관찰하고 여러 매체를 활용해 다각도의 질문을 던지는 작업을 개진해오고 있다. 〈The second floor(2023)〉는 진달래&박우혁이 부산시립미술관의 특정 공간을 번역(인간이 자신이 속한 세계를 넘어 다른 세계를 이해하려는 시도)한 새로운 시도의 결과물이다. 작가는 부산시립미술관의 2층 로비의 천장과 바닥을 두 세계로 표현하기 위해 상징적으로 대비되는 두 컬러로 변환시켰다. 미술관에 개관 당시부터 존재했고, 진달래&박우혁에 의해 작품의 일부가 된 천장에 개방된 두 개의 큰 홀은 ‘이 세계(천장)와 저 세계(바닥)를 또 다른 공간으로 안내하는’ 일종의 ‘웜홀’과 같은 역할을 한다. 진달래&박우혁의 작품은 관객으로 하여금 미술관이라는 세계와 작가의 세계 사이에 있는 경계인으로서, 색으로 치환된 두 세계를 스스로 번역하는 주체가 되는 경험을 제공한다. 따라서 관객은 미술관 공간의 지형과 구조를 재탐색하고 인식하여 기억 속의 미술관을 재인식하게 될 것이다.
Jin Dallae & Park Woohyuk have been creating works that observe social phenomena and cultural attitudes, asking multifaceted questions using various media. The second floor(2023) is a result of the duo’s new attempt to translate the specific space of the Busan Museum of Art (an attempt by humans to understand other worlds beyond their own). The artists transformed the ceiling and floor of the second-floor lobby of the Busan Museum of Art into two symbolically contrasting colors to represent two worlds. The two large halls open to the ceiling, which have been present in the museum since its inception and have become part of the work created by the artists, act as a wormhole that “brings this world (the ceiling) and that world (the floor) into another space.” Jin Dallae & Park Woohyuk’s work invites the viewer to become a person standing between the world of the museum and the world of the artist, and to become a translator of two worlds that have been altered through color. Thus, the viewer will be able to explore and recognize the terrain and structure of the museum space once again, reacquainting themselves with the museum in their memory.
